Learning to Care for What We Share

Sep 11, 2026

Sometimes learning at Matènwa looks like this: preschoolers happily giving their LEGOs a bath.

It’s a small moment, but it says something important about life at Matènwa Community Learning Center. From their earliest years, children learn that their classroom is a community—and they have a role in caring for it.

Working together to clean the toys they share helps our youngest students practice cooperation, responsibility, and care for one another and their environment. And, as you can see, they manage to have a lot of fun doing it.

At MCLC, children don’t just learn in their community. They learn how to be active, contributing members of it.

Watch our preschoolers at work—and try not to smile.
